What Do You See?
Posted June 25, 2012on:
Imagine two people looking at a black cat. One person is afraid it will bite and bring bad luck. The other sees the potential for cuddles and purrs. The black cat is not good or bad. It’s just a cat.
Much of how we feel comes from the labels we use and the meaning we assign to the people, things, and experiences in our lives. In the black cat example two people looked at the same thing and experienced completely opposite feelings – fear and love.
How you look at things sets up how you feel. Your thoughts and beliefs can hijack your beautiful world into a place that is full of stress and worries. Test them out by asking if someone in the same position or seeing the same thing could see things differently. Choose the labels you use wisely and question the meaning you give to things. When you do, your world may start looking like a pretty cool place to hang out.
