Stress Strategies: The Physical Realm
Posted November 28, 2010on:
Most of us have an intimate relationship with stress. We know it is unhealthy and can create illness and disease. We know that it keeps us from being happy and living our best lives.
This is part one in a four part series that provides strategies for relieving stress in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realms. Choosing to implement these strategies on a regular basis can improve your relationship with stress and open the door to a more healthy and happy life.
Stress Strategies for the Physical Realm:
- Take a deep breath: Even one can help. If you have more time go into a deep breathing exercise – close your eyes and breathe in to the count of 7, hold the breath for a count of 7, and slowly release it to the count of 7. Repeat this 3 times. Creating a routine of deep breathing exercises several times per day is most effective.
- Visualizations are a powerful way to start each day and can also support you before entering into a situation that has been stressful in the past. Here are some examples:
- Imagine you are a large deeply rooted tree with a strong trunk. Stressful events are simply breezes or winds that blow through your leaves.
- Visualize a protective bubble or light around you that keeps you safe.
